Hội Chợ Tết - Lunar New Year Festival
Fairfield Showground
The Vietnamese New Year Festival saw VSA welcome the year of the cat with plentiful amounts of energy, effort and teamwork. Annually held at Fairfield Showground, VSA was involved in various tasks throughout the three days from a VSA stall to VIP Ushering and Reception to ticket selling making it one of the busiest Tết festivals VSA's been involved in.
Many thanks go towards community representatives who presented VSA with the opportunities to represent themselves. VSA showed the strong teamwork between all of the enthusiastic members, being able to take care of ushering, reception and the VSA stall at the same time!
Fundraising Dinners
Crystal Palace, Canley Heights
Over the past months, VSA has also been proactive with community fundraising dinners, particularly Thương Về Miền Trung as well as the VCA Queensland Floods Fundraiser. VSA helped usher for the night as well as other activities such as selling raffle tickets, collecting donations and auction spotting. VSA is proud to support these functions which raise critical funds to much needed people, whether it be from natural disasters or poverty.
Vietnamese School
Bonnyrigg Community Centre
Vietnamese School was kicked of early in the year. This was a free class and was taught by a qualified Vietnamese school teacher. VSA members were shown some Vietnamese traditions and food and learnt valuable language and verbal skills. The program lasted 5 weeks, giving members an insight into the Vietnamese culture and language. VSA hopes to hold the five week program later down the track.
State Dinner
Liberty Palace, Bankstown
The annual State Dinner was held in Liberty Palace this year with a hundred people in attendance. The dinner farewelled past committees and welcomed in new VSA committees. For the first time in VSA in NSW, there were five uni VSA's being welcomed into the new year, a feat to show the progression of VSA in New South Wales. Filled with fun and games as well as awards and surprises, the night was memorable and gave a great kickstart to the VSA year.
Canberra Youth Night
Canberra
Starting off unusually with the protest in front of the Vietnamese Embassy, Canberra became a fun learning experience where members were able to connect with their heritage, discovered different issues facing today’s present Vietnam and discussed how today’s youth can make a difference and a movement in the world. This year in Canberra also welcomed in the new term for the Federal VSA Committee 2011-2013. Following this, bonding and socialising between members of VSA NSW and VSA VIC ensued with a night out on the town.
